Aztec Major Cities
Tenochtitlan
Although the Aztec territory stretched over thousands of miles, the Aztecs main city was Tenochtitlan. Tenochtitlan was built on lake Texcoco in the Vally of Mexico. Since lake Texcoco had only one main island, the Aztec had to build chinampas to farm. On the main island, the Aztec built pyramids to worship their gods. During the rule of the Aztec, they found a city called Teotihuacan. Teotihuacan was located about twenty-five miles northeast of Tenochtitlan. In Teotihuacan, there were three main structures, all of them pyramids. These pyramids consist of the Pyramid of the Sun, the Pyramid of the Moon and the Pyramid of the Feathered Serpent. Because of these pyramids, the Aztec called Teotihuacan the city of the gods. Maybe if the Aztec hadn't built cities and just lived in tents people would think that the Spanish had lived in the Americas all along and that there had never been the Indian race.
